Felt like just another day in the office ... okay, not really. Work was actually very busy, but the view made it worth it. I seriously had to ask myself more than once today, "Is the water really that blue?!?" For those of you asking about work, the Bank asked me to stay on an additional three weeks ... and I said I would be happy to, as long as it could be remotely =) It's actually a nice transition to start with a routine, chat with co-workers, another paycheck, etc.
My final piece of luggage arrived! Funny when the airline called and asked for directions ... ummmmmm ... you're talking to the most directionally challenged person in the world who just stepped off a plane to a place she's never been and hasn't done anything but walk a few blocks in each direction? Luckily he found me - and I definitely got my workout in lugging an 80 pound suitcase up a gravel driveway and flight of stairs (and yes, I did realize after getting unpacked that I probably could have managed without half of those clothes!). Apartment is great so far - can't beat a view of the Caribbean from my shower. My landlord dropped off a new beach chair, then introduced me to another neighbor - from Chicago, of course!
Everyone I have met so far is incredibly friendly. I am enjoying how they call you beautiful, even while sweating, hair pulled up, and no make up! I went for a walk around town today over my lunch hour - hit the post office, library, and of course my first bakery ... the coconut pastries are amazing!! Granted, this will probably be my first and last day leaving the apartment without sunscreen!
Finally met Lisa and Jeff tonight - so lucky to have them here!!! Was great getting to know them over the fresh catch and Cruzans Rum (this is sounding familiar). I definitely appreciated them driving me around and pointing out some of the local hot spots - can't wait to go to the next round of donkey races! Enjoyed hearing about their scuba diving adventures. Ironically, I took several pictures of Jeff's boat today as it looked so picturesque sitting there in the sea. Look forward to spending lots more time with my new friends!
Interesting notes from my family - my mom found out that there is another Jennifer Grant on the island, and my brother found non-stop flights to/from Charlotte that run every other Saturday. Of course the Cape Air experience was truly an experience, but just keeping you posted of other options!
And just when I almost forgot to write about my sleepless night ... remember that episode from Seinfeld where Elaine lost her voice yelling "SHUTTTTT UPPPPP" at the dogs? Sounds familiar ... then this morning the chickens/roosters weren't afraid to wake me up nice and early. And JUST as I typed this, the announcer from the baseball game said 'yadda yadda yadda' (for those of you who got all three Seinfeld references). I'll sign off on that note ... and let's hope I don't have to unmute my phone on any work conference calls!
Love the posts, Jen...it looks absolutely amazing there! Hope you're having a great time!!
